Frequently Asked Questions

Our team does not rely on predefined solutions; instead, we approach every project with an individual mindset shaped by the specific site, the Client’s goals, and the unique circumstances of the project. We believe that a well-functioning, timeless, and aesthetically refined building can only be achieved through consistent, detail-oriented design — from the earliest concept phase to the completion of construction.
As architects, building energy consultants, and certified Passive House designers, we place particular emphasis on technical integrity and energy efficiency. The documentation we provide is far more than a visual concept: it contains detailed, clear, and buildable instructions for contractors, ensuring that the intended result can be accurately realized.
Our approach is highly practice-oriented. We avoid unnecessarily complicated solutions, while never compromising on professional quality. Our goal in every project is to create buildings that are technically sound, architecturally refined, energy-efficient, and capable of performing reliably over the long term.
We are not afraid to step away from the drawing board when necessary: we regularly coordinate details on site and personally review the implementation process to ensure that the design intent is carried through into reality.
This mindset allows us to provide far more than design documentation alone — we offer genuine professional support throughout construction as well. According to feedback from our Clients, this is one of the greatest values we represent. It is not uncommon for Clients, once the project is completed and they have moved in, to say that if they had to start over, they would make the very same decisions again — without changing a thing.

From bespoke family homes and certified Passive Houses to residential, public, and industrial buildings — including extensions and renovation projects — we undertake projects where professional quality and an energy-conscious approach are considered essential.

The earlier we become involved, the better. Ideally, we can already provide valuable support before purchasing a plot — or while the purchase is still being considered — whether from an architectural or an energy-performance perspective. This allows truly well-founded decisions to be made from the very beginning of the project.

Every project is unique, therefore our fees are always tailored to the specific scope of work. Our proposals include a detailed breakdown of the tasks involved, the design phases, and the projected schedule.

The timeframe always depends on the complexity of the specific project. In the case of a family house, the process generally takes approximately 4–6 months from concept development to the completion of the construction documentation. More complex or larger-scale projects typically require a longer design and coordination period.

An existing floor plan — whether it is your own sketch or something found online — can certainly help initiate the collaborative design discussion. However, experience shows that such layouts are rarely suitable without significant modifications. In most cases, a list of required spaces and the desired relationships between them provide a far better starting point.

Floor plans found online are typically not designed for a specific site, orientation, or local context, which means they often do not function well — or at all — within the actual design conditions of a given project. It is also common for certain rooms to be undersized, impractical to furnish, or entirely lacking the design principles necessary for true energy efficiency.

It is important to understand that a good building does not begin with a floor plan “that will eventually get a roof.” It begins with a comprehensive architectural concept that simultaneously considers massing, functionality, natural light, environmental relationships, and long-term usability.

This is precisely why an experienced architect is essential: to ensure that every detail is coordinated, site-specific, and developed as part of a coherent, well-functioning whole — from the very first line to the final screw.

Yes. We frequently assist in the architectural and energy-performance evaluation of plans prepared by others, particularly when the Client would like independent professional confirmation of their decisions or suspects that certain aspects may be insufficiently resolved.

During the review process, we assess architectural quality, usability, technical detailing, and energy efficiency alike. In many cases, even a few targeted professional observations can have a significant impact on the final outcome of the project.

Yes. Several buildings have already been successfully completed where the original design or preparation process had begun with another architectural practice but became stalled for various reasons.

In our experience, situations like these require not only professional expertise, but also empathy and a transparent redesign process. If there are valuable elements worth preserving, we retain them; if a completely new concept is needed, we provide support for that as well.

Our goal is to transform a stalled project into a well-functioning, technically sound, carefully reconsidered, and long-lasting building that fully serves the Client’s needs and expectations.

We operate throughout the entire territory of Hungary, and a significant part of the design process can be carried out efficiently online. Consultations, professional reviews, and energy-performance calculations can all be conducted smoothly remotely.

Personal site visits and on-site consultations most frequently take place in Budapest and its surrounding area; however, when required, we provide on-site presence anywhere in the country.

For certain assessments and design tasks, on-site inspections are essential, and the necessity of these is always evaluated based on the specific needs of the project.

Yes. We believe it is important for the architect to be involved not only at the design desk, but also throughout the implementation process, supporting both the Client and the contractor.

We provide architectural site supervision, on-site coordination, and professional consultation during construction — particularly in projects involving complex technical solutions, demanding energy-performance details, or Passive House requirements.

In our experience, regular personal involvement is often essential to ensure that the completed building truly delivers the quality and performance promised by the design documentation.

An energy-conscious or low-energy building is a house designed to achieve significantly lower energy consumption than conventional buildings — for example through advanced insulation, optimal orientation, efficient building systems, and carefully considered design decisions. These buildings generally consume less energy, but there is no universally standardized certification or performance requirement defining them.

A certified Passive House, by contrast, is a building designed and verified according to a strict international standard developed by the Passive House Institute. Typical requirements include a maximum heating demand of 15 kWh/m² per year, airtightness below n₅₀ ≤ 0.6 1/h, and full energy-performance verification through PHPP (Passive House Planning Package) calculations.

It is important to note that every certified Passive House is a low-energy building — but not every low-energy building qualifies as a Passive House.

Equally important is the fact that a building can only truly be called a Passive House if it has received official certification, as this is what guarantees the expected level of performance.

Ideally, the feasibility of Passive House development should be evaluated before purchasing the plot, as not every site is suitable for achieving certified Passive House standards in a cost-effective way. In some cases, environmental conditions — such as orientation or shading — may make Passive House construction inadvisable or only achievable through significant compromises.

Even in the case of an already owned plot, it is still possible to assess how well the site supports achieving certification. However, the decision should ideally be made no later than the beginning of the design process, since Passive House principles fundamentally influence the building’s overall design and technical concept.

Once a building has already been completed, official certification is generally no longer possible — or only possible to a very limited extent — and the likelihood of successful certification becomes highly uncertain.

A dedicated “Passive House specialist” contractor is not necessarily required. What matters far more is that the contractor works precisely, is open to collaboration, and is willing to follow the detailed plans and technical instructions carefully.

In our experience, the fact that someone has already built several houses is not, by itself, a guarantee of the right professional mindset. We have encountered contractors who considered themselves highly experienced, yet were still unfamiliar with some of the most fundamental Passive House principles.

If a contractor insists on incorrect or technically risky solutions, it can lead to serious problems during construction. This is why thorough coordination and early-stage discussions are essential in every project. When necessary, we also assist our Clients in selecting the appropriate contractors and specialist professionals.
